Vampire Squid

As I’m sure you all have learned by now, I am a biology nerd. LOVE science and all the super cool and fascinating creatures of this world. One of the most fascinating regions is the inky depths of the oceans. Scientists once thought these would be lifeless since all life had to have connections to the sun. They knew creatures could swim and pass through the benthic depths but they never thought they’d actually find critters that lived and thrived that deep in the ocean. What a marvelous surprise and a much-needed kick in our arrogance to think we have everything all figured out ;)

One of the animals that calls the benthic depths home is called a Vampire Squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis). It actually looks like a octopus with webbing between its legs. It’s a beautiful and graceful creature.

Here’s some cool video footage from Planet Earth:

Pretty cool eh?

Very cool. Is it wrong I had flashbacks to watching Jacques Cousteau and Marty Stouffer? lol
