Or maybe they’ve just never heard of them and don’t know they have them.
Well, I have them and they suck
And the strange thing is, in all the years I’ve gone to the dentist or had doctor’s examine my throat, no one ever mentioned anything about them, that I had them, that I might have them, or anything at all on the subject. In all my years of biology classes, I’ve never heard of them. Not one word.
Well, for those of you that don’t know what these hideous little things are let me enlighten you. Tonsil stones aka tonsilloliths aka disgusting off white stinky blobs that hide out in your tonsils.
Tonsil stones are made of food debris and bacteria that get deep down inside the crevices of the tonsils, forming a stinky mass. These things can get to be quite large depending on how long you leave them there. Ever have a nasty taste in the back of your mouth when you swallow? Had someone tell you your breath always stinks? Have a frequent cough? Have a sore throat that just won’t go away? It could be tonsil stones. Which could be good news since you can get rid of them yourself.
It entails forcing the stones out of the crypts using either a Q-tip to shove them out like a pimple *gag* or using a water pick to flush them out *gag*. Either way, it’s a disgusting job. And having stuff shoved into the back of the throat will also make you gag. Just be gentle about it. Your tonsils are rather delicate and too much pushing and prodding can irritate them and even make them bleed.
After getting rid of the tonsil stones you have to continually irrigate your tonsils to keep the dang things from coming back. I use a curved syringe I ordered from Amazon to flush them out. Some folks like using a water pick (like you use for your teeth). And some people do well with a nasal irrigator.
Anyone out there ever had tonsil stones? What do you do to keep control of them?
