Something Every Author Loves to Hear

Of course it’s every author’s dream is to hear acceptance from an agent, acceptance then from a big Publishing house, and  word that screenwriters are working diligently. What writer doesn’t want to hear those things? I can’t wait to go shopping for my dress to wear to the premier of the movies made from by novels. I think I may go with Christian Louboutin peep-toes.

I am a dreamer, as all writers are. It’s kind of our thing. However, I am also pretty grounded and *try* not to set too lofty of goals so I’m not disappointed when they don’t happen. It’s hard though. Writers, even if they won’t admit it to anyone else, want their books to go best-seller and for people to flock to their websites/blogs and for their followers on Twitter to jump to the tens of thousands. We want people to discuss our books over coffee or perhaps around the office watercooler, teasing apart all aspects of the plot, trying to figure out where we are going with the story. we want them to have a favorite character they love and a character they love to hate. It might even be fun to have T-shirts and action figures (I think my books would have the most AWESOME action figures!!!). I wouldn’t even mind having a crazy fan.

As long as they don’t wield a hammer that is 😉

But no matter what the lofty goals we writers have, there is always one thing that is pretty much guaranteed to put a huge smile on our faces and totally make our day.

Someone telling us how much they enjoyed our book, whether that be in person or in a review.

*grin* When I see a new review on Amazon or Goodreads, I get all nervous and sweaty-palmed, worried and wondering if they loved t or hated it or didn’t feel much either way. I know that getting bad reviews is part of the process and all but it still stings when it happens, ya know?

One of my Pharmacology students from last semester was walking down the hallway and stopped by to say hello. She was full of smiles and told me she read The Chosen while on vacation over the winter break. Bless her heart! Sarah GUSHED about how much she loved it! She said she wished she would have bought the others in the series because she read the entire 398 page book in about four hours! 😀

I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to see someone’s eyes light up when they speak of reading my books. It makes my heart get all warm and makes me want to start in on the water works.  Seriously! There is so much that goes into writing a book and to have someone *get it* is just so amazing!

So thank you Miss Sarah for totally making my day!

Have you read a great book lately? Something that either touched you in some way or just entertained the hell out of you and made you excited to read more by that author? Did you write a review on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or perhaps Goodreads? Reviews are hugely helpful for authors and is an amazing way to let them know how much you enjoyed their work if you can’t tell them face-to-face! 🙂

I’d love to hear from you guys!
