Aliens Weren’t Waiting at Devil’s Tower For Me

Have you ever seen a movie and thought to yourself “I HAVE to go there someday?”

Well, in 2010, I actually got to visit one of the places I’ve always wanted to see!!! SQUEEEEEEE! It was one of the coolest moments EVAH!

I remember it like it was yesterday… *cue harp music taking you back in time*

It was May 2010, the week my parents got married. My sisters and I decided to pay for a family trip to South Dakota for my parent’s 40th anniversary. My sisters and I planned the whole thing without them knowing. We got hotel rooms in Deadwood, bought tickets for the 1880’s train ride from Hill City to Keystone, planned the drive to Mount Rushmore, made appointments at Woody’s Wild West Photos, and even made a tentative itinerary to go further south to visitΒ  the caves and Crazy Horse.

And on the trip to Deadwood, we planned on stopping by Devil’s Tower in Wyoming.

Ever since watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I’ve wanted to see Devil’s Tower in real life.

And I admit I was hoping to see the giant spaceship that would whisk me away on some grand adventure in space. I informed my family that if there was an alien ship hanging out at Devil’s Tower, they could go on to Deadwood without me and come back to get me in the way back to Colorado πŸ˜€

Well, there wasn’t a space ship but there was a strange phenomena:

Kevin and Bree had sunburns …coincidence? I think not!

What neat places have you always wanted to visit that you first saw in a movie? I’m DYING to know!

I’ve always wanted to see that waterfall in the Last of the Mohicans (you know, the one you could walk behind?) but I read somewhere that was just a set. Of course…

Sorry about the aliens. Maybe they got held up? Had to stop for coffee on their way in?

    Endor! Wait…

This is a little embarrassing, but to this day I want to visit Ayers Rock in Australia because of a cartoon about koalas I used to watch as a kid. They used it as a portal between their world and ours.

Honestly, I’d love to visit the blue guy’s planet in Avatar. That was one gorgeous looking planet! If I had to choose a REAL place, I’d go with either Ayer’s Rock in Australia or New York City. I blame Rescuers Down Under and various films set in New York City for that. And maybe Japan because of all the anime I watch. lol I have too many choices, Shay!

I thought that rock was just for the movie. It’s so cool that you got to see Devil’s Tower! I’m sorry the aliens weren’t there, but I’m sure they know about you and have plans to rescue you from this planet soon. πŸ˜‰
