Vacation to the Planet Gentra

I was just sitting here thinking about how cool it would be if the portals I created in the Portals of Destiny series were REAL so I could go visit another planet. *sigh* Sometimes, being a writer can sort of suck. I mean, you come up with all these cool ideas and you wish so BAD they were real. And as a reader, you get swept away to these totally awesome places and then eventually have to return to the real world.

I can’t tell you how often I wish I could actually visit Middle Earth, or find a secret world called Narnia, or even travel to Tatooine. Just to be able to lay eyes on the things I can see so clearly in my head, that I could swear they were real. To me, that’s the best thing about reading scifi and fantasy and what drives me to these genres over and over again. There is no limit to the things a writer can imagine and no limit to the amazing places they can create. Sort of like a vacation without the headache and lost luggage…

The portals in my scifi/fantasy series take travelers to another planet. Kinda like the Stargate. There IS a catch: the traveler is actually transformed to the sentient life on that planet. That way, they can visit ANY planet in the universe without having to be limited to those that are similar to Earth. Kinda hard for Homo sapiens to breathe methane gas 😉 And my portals actually don’t look like the Stargate either. They are simply a part of the wall or rock face of a cave. Perhaps there is a portal on the wall of your kitchen. Alas, unless you’re Chosen, you wouldn’t be able to see it.

To get an idea of the diversity of forms my characters have in the Portals of Destiny series, take a peek at the Artwork link at the top if the website. My talented cover artist did those drawings for the book trailer.

What amazing places have you wished were real so you could go visit them?

I’m honestly not a sci-fi person. Sometimes some fantasy, but I’m picky even with that. I’m sorry…BUT…I still agree with you. I have wanted to disappear into the Secret Garden. I so wanted to be Laura Ingles and live in the wild planes of young America, or Anne living on Green Gables. More recently, I BECAME the dovekeepers in Alice Hoffman’s The Dovekeepers – I lived those women’s lives, and it was literally difficult to lift my head from the pages of their stories and reenter my life. It was like when I’m on a roll writing my own stories. I’m all disoriented. And I wished I had Janey’s intellect and whit when I read The Atlas of Love.

I LOVE Little House! Read the books and watched the TV show. I bet I’ve seen all of them! 😀
