Nerdy Girl in School

Nerdy girl in school…

That could actually still be used to describe me since a professor works in a school and I definitely haven’t lost my nerdiness 😀

In fact, I think it may have actually grown so large as to barely be contained…

But I like being the nerdy girl. Wasn’t always like that, of course. Who wants to wear that label in middle school and/or high school? I mean, those times are tough enough without being called things like dork, geek, nerd. Thanks to Big bang Theory, those words are actually becoming pretty dang cool so thanks to Sheldon and Leonard!

When it came to writing the main character for the Adventures of Alexis Davenport series, it came as no surprise that I wanted her to be a nerdy girl, just like I was back in the day.

Alright y’all. you can quit with the “What do you mean, ‘back in the day’?” and “Wait, and this is different that present day how exactly?” Sheesh! Let a girl dream and think she’s made it into Coolzville!

Anyway, my nerdiness comes in the form of a love and passion for everything science, whether it be biology or anatomy (get your minds out of the gutter!), chemistry (okay, not so much with this one), physics (only in terms of space stuff), geology…

You get the picture.

When it came to the geek that is Alexis davenport, she had to be passionate about a different subject. One that I have never really been all that into and have to be forced into studying/reading about it.

You see, this little gift of being able to retain each and every tiny tidbit about historical events will really come in handy. Oh sure, Alex will be able to ace every history test and piss everyone in the class off when they realize there’s no curve (I used to love doing that!) but there’s something even more important that she will be able to do with this awesome knowledge:

Stop some evil guy dude bastard from trying to change the past. He’s working for someone else and the ultimate plan won’t be revealed until the third book so you’ll have to be patient and enjoy the evil bastard in his attempts to thwart the mighty Alex!

Mighty in knowledge if not in physical strength but in this war, only her wits and gift of history will save us all from an uncertain future.

Cuz who really knows what would happen if someone changed one tiny event? The ripple effect could have catastrophic effects. What if it affected your ancestors so that they died before giving birth to you?

Kind of messes with your head huh?

At any rate, it’s all good. Alexis Davenport has us covered so sleep well knowing that your future is safe and secure in the hands of a fifteen year old moody teenager…

And remember this the next time you are tempted to tease someone for being a nerd. They just may save your life from an evil bastard trying to change time and erase your very existence.

If you would like to check out the Adventures of Alexis Davenport series, there are two books in the series thus far: Dangerous Reflections and Twisted Reflections. Both are available in e-book and paperback for your reading pleasure 🙂

Were you the nerdy kid in school? Did that follow you into adulthood? I’d love to hear from you!

A random commenter will win an autographed copy of Dangerous Reflections!! Winner will be chosen Wednesday the 19th!

I too am a nerd and proud of it. Played Dungeons and Dragons in High school. Didn’t have many dates. Helped with my writing, though. Congrats on the new version of The Chosen.

Thank you my friend!!! While I didn’t get into D&D that much, I did play video games like crazy and was pretty damn good at night Laser Tag 😉

I was such a nerd! Let’s add extreme shyness and a late bloomer, didn’t even start to date until I was 18. D&D I loved and reading. (still love the reading, hint, hint).

Aw, Shay. I’d filled my quota of blog visits today (lest I never open my WIP) but then I saw you had written about me. Snort!

Nerdy girls, unite! Our success as writers is our revenge, giving nerdy heroines like me, er, Alexis, a chance to save the day. WOOT!
