Meeting Victor Marx

The kids of Camp Hope got a special visit yesterday from Victor Marx of All Things Possible Ministry. When I found out he was coming to Grand Junction I squeeeeed like a girl at a Taylor Swift concert. At a staff weekend at camp Hope two years ago, we watched the documentary about Victor, his life, and his ministry. Talk about a powerful video. I bought it as soon as I got back into town.

Demonstrating the difference between character and perception

Victor is truly gifted and uses his gifts of inspirational speaking to reach kids who are broken and hurting and need some hope in their lives. The thing with Victor that makes him connect with the kids is that when he says he understands where they are coming from, he means it! How many times have you been through something horrible: abuse, death of a loved one, divorce, etc and had someone say to you “I understand what you’re going through.” And you sit back and say “Wait, you’ve never been abused, divorced, etc. You DON’T actually know what I’m feeling.” Imagine this in a child who is struggling to understand WHY the bad things are happening and dealing with people around them who really don’t get what they are going through.

When Victor shares his story, you can literally see the audience respond. Here’s a man who really does know their heartache and frustration and anger and despair and hopelessness.

Below is a video of Victor doing his famous disarm trick. Pretty impressive!

Awesome vid, Shay! I tried to pull that move on my brother, but I ended up smacking both of us in the head. LOL

He does several famous moves. He told a story of when he tried to do the nunchuck move (where he can hit a pencil out of someones hand) and he hit the guy’s fingers. And another time he was using his Japanese sword to slice through a watermelon on his son’s stomach and cut into his hip. The first thing he said was “Don’t tell your mom!” LOL
