Antiques and Old Books

My mom, sister, and I went down to Main Street yesterday and shopped for about five hours. It was awesome! I love the shops downtown. There’s antique stores, and a store that sells things from Ten Thousand Villages, and lots of other neat shops. We discovered one called Bella Balsamic and The Pressed Olive. They had a huge assortment of flavored balsamic vinegars and olive oils as well as various seasonings and spices and gorgeous pastas. One of my new favorite stores  😉

But nothing compares to browsing through the antique stores. *happy sigh* There’s something about the cramped aisles stuffed with old items that at first glance don’t have a thing in common and yet seem to fit together like the pieces of a puzzle. The one thing that tends to draw me in are the old books: the scruffed and torn covers, yellowed pages, old musty scent. I honestly didn’t plan on buying anything with the holidays coming up and all but I found a couple that I just had to have:

What about you? Do you like cruising through antique stores? What’s your weakness? I’d love to hear from you!

Hi Shay, I’m a sucker for Bakelite. Yep, old plastic. Part of the fascination is that just about everything was made out of it when it was new and innovative. Some of the pieces in my collection are truly quirky, like a cute pencil sharpener in the shape of an old radio. It would have been a modern radio when first made.
