AnomalyCon 2015

This was my first year at AnomalyCon and I must say it was bloody spectacular! I was invited to participate in several author panels, which I’d never done before. Hanging with such supremely awesome literary talent was a little intimidating, but after a single coupleΒ numerous shots of whiskey, I was all good πŸ˜‰

I often have people ask me how many books I’ve sold or how much money I’ve made at conventions and my answer is always the same: none. Once you figure in cost of hotel, gas or airfare, food, and often times having to pay for the table and even Wifi, that’s a very honest answer. I have never made money at any convention I’ve ever attended. Not even close to breaking even. I also enjoy checking out the various vendors and doing a little shopping for cool cosplay clothing and accessories, which really means I make no money!

But I really don’t care about the money. I don’t go to the conventions to make a profit or even try to break even after the cost of everything. I go to the Cons to meet people, whether it be fellow authors, artists, vendors, but mostly the cosplayers and people attending the Con for fun. People are so awesome and so much fun to talk to. And their creativity in designing their costumes is mind-blowing.

There’s something about seeing someone wearing something from your favorite TV show, comic book, movie, etc that makes you instant friends. You point to their outfit and maybe squeal in delight (maybe it’s just me??), pointing to your own reflection of your love for a fandom, whether it be a shirt or necklace or entire outfit. Their eyes light up and they meet yours with a smile of utter joy and acceptance. Boom! Instant friends.

Interacted with this group several times throughout the 3 day convention. So awesome!!
